AcupunctureTraditionally, the needles are thought to move the "qi" (energy) that has become blocked in pain and other conditions. In a Western sense, acupuncture may work by stimulating the nerve fibers by transmitting signals to the spinal cord and brain, which then release hormones that reduce pain and promote healing.

Electro-AcupunctureA mild electrical stimulation is added to the needles in order to magnify the "qi" movement in stubborn conditions. It is believed that this works similarly to TENS units used in physical therapy, the difference being that the electrical stimulation is introduced to the acu-points established by Traditional Chinese Medicine.
